Optimize / upload mode roadmap

Repair PDF Roadmap

PDF repair needs tolerant parsing and object reconstruction beyond the browser MVP. This remains an advanced quality-gated roadmap item.

how it works

Designed for the shortest private path.

  1. Try local tools for valid PDFs today.
  2. Repair requires damaged-file fixtures and recovery metrics.
  3. The feature will ship only after malformed samples are handled reliably.
advanced feature boundary

Repair PDF is not shipped in the local MVP yet.

This feature needs a higher quality bar than the current browser-only pipeline. If it later requires upload or AI processing, VaultPDF will separate it from local tools and ask for explicit consent before any file leaves the browser.

quality gate

Repair quality gate

Recover readable pages from malformed PDFs without corrupting valid input files or claiming impossible recovery.

upload-mode candidate

Must pass before launch

  • Test malformed xref tables, missing trailers, truncated files and broken object streams.
  • Report recovered page count and unrecoverable sections.
  • Never overwrite the source file.
  • Fail clearly when recovery is not possible.

Currently blocked by

  • Needs tolerant parser/reconstruction engine.
  • No damaged-file fixture suite yet.

faq

Practical boundaries before you process a file.

Can a browser reliably repair damaged PDFs?

Some simple cases may work, but robust repair usually needs a lower-level tolerant PDF parser.

Will Repair PDF upload files?

If a server engine is required, VaultPDF will label it as upload mode before any file leaves the browser.
